About the project
In Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire, we installed a semi-automatic BLOCKMASTER 8 block making machine. The line consists of a mixer that prepares the concrete, an inclined belt conveyor that carries the mix to the machine's hopper, the BLOCKMASTER 8 itself and a roller pallet conveyor that brings the full pallets out of the mould. Our team commissioned the machine on site and trained the customer's operators.
The footage taken after commissioning shows 8 hollow blocks of 20 cm coming out of every cycle; photos taken a few weeks later show the curing yard filled with row after row of fresh blocks.
How do you plan a curing yard for 8,000 blocks a day?
The BLOCKMASTER 8 makes 8 blocks of 200x400x200 mm per cycle and runs 100–120 pallet cycles per hour. At a target of about 8,000 blocks a day, roughly 1,000 pallet loads of fresh blocks travel from the machine to the curing yard every day. In the Abidjan plant the flow works like this:
- The full pallet leaves the mould on the roller pallet conveyor.
- The operator takes the pallet onto the pallet trolley.
- The trolley carries the fresh blocks to the curing yard, where they are set out in neat rows to harden.
Because this cycle repeats all day, the curing yard should hold at least one full day of production, be level and let the pallet trolley move around easily. On the Abidjan site, lanes were left between the rows for the trolley.
Frequently asked questions
What else can the BLOCKMASTER 8 produce?
With a mould change it makes 10 blocks of 15 cm per cycle (about 10,000 a day), 16 blocks of 10 cm (about 16,000 a day) or 2 curbstones of 150x700x300 mm (about 2,000 a day). Hollow floor blocks and uncoloured pavers can also be produced.
Why a semi-automatic, single-hopper machine?
The BLOCKMASTER 8 has a single hopper for customers who produce with one type of aggregate, and it is the mid-capacity model of our semi-automatic range. For plants starting block production or expanding capacity, it strikes a good balance between investment and output.
Do you have other installations in Côte d'Ivoire?
Yes. Photos of the block and paver machine we installed in Bouaké: CBM 25 Bouaké installation.
